OSPF Adjacency Issue Between a Physical and a Virtual Layer 3 Switch

Network Engineering

When I reconfigure the virtual switch to use non-broadcast (unicast) hello packets, the OSPF adjacency is successfully formed. Packet captures show that the physical switch is not receiving the multicast OSPF hello packets (sent to 224.0.0.5) from the virtual switch.

Sflow on Nexus returning faulty interface values

Network Engineering

I found sFlow does not support egress sampling for multicast , broadcast, or unknown unicast packets. In my opinion the Cisco documentation is not really clear if this behavior is expected or not. For NX-OS 10.5 But the NX-OS 7 documentation states: Egress sFlow of multicast traffic requires hardware multicast global-tx-span configuration.

Simple Precision Time Protocol at Meta

Engineering at Meta

While deploying Precision Time Protocol (PTP) at Meta, we’ve developed a simplified version of the protocol (Simple Precision Time Protocol – SPTP), that can offer the same level of clock synchronization as unicast PTPv2 more reliably and with fewer resources.

CCNA: Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)

The Network DNA

Remember PC-2 knows the MAC address of the PC-1 when responding to ARP Request, so ARP Response is NOT broadcast, it is Unicast communication between PC-2 and PC-1. PC-2 knows about the PC-1 MAC address from the SMAC value of the ARP request that it received from PC-1. PC-1 maps the IP address 1.1.1.2 with 0x4a::56.
